Just wanted to say R.I.P to the late Demetrius DuBose. DuBose starred at linebacker for Notre Dame in the early 90s, and as a kid was one of my favorite players to watch.

Ten years ago today, DuBose was shot and killed by two San Diego police officers responding to a call of an alleged burglary.

DuBose had struggled with drug problems shortly after his NFL career ended, but there remains a great deal of controversy and speculation as to whether or not the police were just in their actions.

Race, something you simply can't ignore, also could have been a factor.

DuBose was black. The two police officers who shot and killed him were white.

He was shot 12 times.

DuBose by most accounts was a pleasant guy off the field, well-liked my many. During his time at Notre Dame, DuBose was a model student athlete, not one to get into trouble or cause any problems for head coach Lou Holtz.

My brother Patrick, who was graduated from Notre Dame class of '92, has told me that DuBose was a good kid.

My fondest memory of DuBose was shortly after the famous "Snow Bowl" game between Notre Dame and Penn State in 1992. DuBose, overcome by the emotion of the last-minute victory, appeared nearly moved to tears as he extolled the magic surrounding the Notre Dame football program.

Demetrius DuBose was an All American. Bright and seemingly headed for great things.

DuBose was just 28 years old at the time of his death.

Good man he was.

Rest in peace, Demetrius.
